The Toll Bar Luxury Villa at Langley Castle

Toll Bar Luxury Villa at Langley Castle nestles within Langley Castle’s grounds, as the castle’s superb new self-catering cottage (opened June 2024). Here, the wow-factor is not only the designer interior and fabulously equipped facility, but also the glorious medieval castle vista, appreciated from either the private outdoor terrace or villa windows.

Guests staying in this luxury, secluded accommodation, located adjacent to the castle gates, can either stay cocooned in their romantic escapist haven, or choose to breakfast and dine in the castle (if there is no exclusive-use event). Should any party have full use, a breakfast or picnic hamper can be arranged for cottage guests’ delight.

Toll Bar Luxury Villa guests can also relax in the Drawing Room and Bar, indulge in an afternoon tea, if they wish to book that special treat, and enjoy Langley Castle’s daily Battlements Tour. Castle hopping can provide quite a thrill!

With two gorgeous ensuite double rooms, complete with flatscreen TVs and luxury bathrooms, fantastically equipped open-plan kitchen, cosy sitting room and your own outdoor space, this is the option for those revelling in independence. One or two couples can live life in accommodation designed by the current Baron and Baroness of Langley and even bring a little one too, with the use of a travel cot.

Convenience is delivered by private parking, whilst arriving via your own woodland driveway and exclusive-use entrance creates an immediate sense of luxury and entitlement. Meanwhile, a terrace on which to eat, sip your favourite tipple, or sunbathe, is a must-use area. All in all, it’s a unique self-catering experience like nothing else available at a Northumbrian castle.

Where the name comes from
Toll Bar Cottage is so named because it was the place at which tolls on the old turnpike road were collected, back in the 18th century. The cottage sits alongside the current incarnation of this road – the A686 – which runs between the A69 and Penrith, encompasses the amazing ascent/descent of Hartside and has been voted one of England’s ‘Ten Great Drives’, by motoring organisation the AA.
