Visit Hadrian’s Wall in the morning (Roman Times), Hexham Abbey & Hexham Old Goal in the afternoon (Middle Ages) and explore Newcastle Quayside in the evening (Recent times).

First Millennium: Roman Times

The Romans fortified northern England with Hadrian’s Wall, now a World Heritage Site. Explore Vindolanda Fort and Museum, Housteads Fort, Chesters Fort, Corbridge Roman Army Museum.

Second Millennium: Middle Ages

Experience the days of King Arthur, Knights, Stately Castles – stay at Langley Castle.

From Langley Castle visit Hexham Abbey, Hexham Old Goal, Walkworth Castle, Bamburgh Castle – seat of the ancient Kingdom of Northumbria, Dunstanburgh Castel, Alnwick Castle – home of the Duke of Northumberland, and used in the filming of Harry Potter, Newcastle Keep and Blackgate, Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral.

Third Millennium: Recent Times

Newcastle and surrounding area have all the comforts of modern times with history of recent centuries

Recent Times: Explore Newcastle Quayside, Tyne Bridges, the Sage Gateshead – music and arts centre, the Baltic – centre for contemporary art, Newcastle Metro centre.

Recent Centuries: Bessie Surtees House – 16th and 17th Century merchants house, of Jacobean architecture, Beamish Open Air Museum – world famous for telling the story of people in the North East during Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods.
